Updates – Big PTP Announcements and Archaeology Moles

Big News For Polishing the Pulpit (PTP) 2013

The last week has produced several big announcements for PTP 2013. With over 600 people already registered, and what will be an estimated crowd of 3000 people, PTP 2013 is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever.

PTP-2013-Schedule-coverPTP Schedule Released

With over 700 sessions (officially 24% more than last year) PTP 2013 promises to be the biggest in its 17 year history. Virtually every aspect of PTP is bigger this year, with literally something for everyone. The tentative schedule has been released, and a revised schedule will be coming out within a week. Then look for the brochures in your mailboxes within another couple of weeks. The speakers’ list includes tons of veterans, as well as dozens of new faces as well. Justin Rogers will be teaching OT Hebrew. Dr. James Smeal and John Moore will offer Greek in beginning and advanced classes. There will be a mock debate on instrumental music. Dr. Bill Battles will discuss depression, sibling rivalry, communication, the sexual relationship, parenting, and pornography. Becky Blackmon will lead women in a wonderful study of the power of prayer. There is an expanded children’s program, and much much more. You won’t want to miss it.

And, as if that wasn’t enough…

usb-drivesFree USB Drive Loaded with PTP Audios

It was also announced that each paid attendee will receive a USB memory stick with all the audios from the event. Offers like this usually come with a catch, but not this one. Here’s the deal. Instead of producing CDs on site, what we are going to do is convert them to MP3 and load them onto the flash drive. For those coming for just the weekend, each couple will receive a flash drive with all the lessons from Friday and Saturday. The drives will be ready Sunday morning. For those staying the week, each man will receive a drive with all men’s lessons from Friday through Wednesday night on them. Likewise, women will receive drives with all the women’s lessons from Friday through Wednesday night. The drives will be available on Thursday at the end of the event.

The only catch is that you have to be a paid attendee at full-price for your category. So, yes, students, missionaries, and widows get them. Speakers and staff get them. Scholarship recipients do not. Teens do not (since they do not pay a fee for attending with a guardian.)

And, of course, copying and sharing is strictly prohibited. You may not share them with members of your congregation by allowing them to copy the drive, or with those that are not paid attendees. You may not post them online. This would be a violation of copyright and constitute a willful sin.

You may still order individual and CD sets, and DVDs of the ballrooms and Exhibition Hall Sessions should also be available for purchase.

I think people will be really excited to be able to have all the audios, which in the past would have cost over $600, for the price of admission to the event. Basically, if you and your spouse attend, and come at the early bird discount price of $200, then you will receive over $600 in audios. You can’t beat that with a stick…well, only with a memory stick.

You won’t want to miss it. In fact…

Why Don’t You Tell Your Congregation About It?

PTP has produced some PowerPoint/Keynote slides for you to use to let everyone know about PTP. While there are great resources and lessons for preachers at PTP, PTP is for EVERYONE in your congregation. Many churches load up the church bus and come to PTP. Your congregation will leave strengthened and encouraged.

House to House/Heart to Heart Update

The May/June issue is hitting the boxes throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Iraq, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and many other countries. The featured article is on one of the most asked questions about the churches of Christ, “Do you think you are the only one’s going to heaven?” If you haven’t seen it yet, skip on over to the website and take a look at Allen’s excellent article that addresses this topic.

The next issue is on Why Bad Things Happen to Good People (July/August Issue).

The issue after that is on Instrumental Music (September/October).

It is not too late to get your congregation in for either of those issues, or to increase your circulation.

Finally, Interesting Archaeologists

Somebody call Digger Doug and let him know there is work available in England. Moles are continually digging up artifacts and pushing them to the surface at the ancient fortress of Epiacum. Volunteers are sifting through the mole hills and finding all sorts of wonderful things. The full story is here.

Epiacum

The ancient fortress of Epiacum can still be seen from the air.
